    We are a highly regarded, dynamic and busy Stockport based firm. There is an exciting opportunity for a Community Care Solicitor to join our expanding legal aid team and represent clients across a range of community care work.

    We have a busy and varied Court of Protection department, and have a long history of representing those most vulnerable. The successful applicant will work together with our Court of Protection Solicitors if required.

    The successful applicant must meet the supervisor requirements set by the Legal Aid Agency for the Community Care category of work, and ideally have a clean driving licence with access to a vehicle. Full or part time positions considered.

  • Family Paralegal • Stockport • Full time

Come and join our amazing team at Alfred Newton Solicitors. We are seeking a full time, experienced family paralegal for our busy family team based at the Stockport office, due to expansion of the department. The role will mainly be working in our legally aided department, and include dealing with vulnerable clients, working on files in court proceedings and those within the public law outline process, as well as assisting on private law disputes, divorce and finances.

The successful applicant’s duties will include;

  • To be responsible for the management of files with supervision and support.
  • To provide fee earning and administrative support to fee earners in the family department, to include managing and maintaining files.
  • Producing letters and legal documents, drafting letters of instruction, protocol requests, court documents and other documents such as witness statements.
  • Attending clients and client meetings, dealing with telephone queries, arranging meetings.
  • Researching case law.
  • Liaising with counsel and experts.
  • Assisting with legal aid assessments and applications.

Skills required;

  • Strong typing skills.
  • Some family paralegal experience is preferable.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • A good standard of education and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to work to deadlines.
  • The ability to work on one’s own initiative.

We are seeking a full time, experienced family secretary for our busy family department based at the Stockport office.

The successful applicant’s duties will include;

  • To provide secretarial and administrative support to fee earners in the family department, to include managing and maintaining files from opening to archiving.
  • Handling telephone enquiries, making appointments and taking messages
  • Producing letters and legal documents, including court forms and statements
  • Audio typing
  • Copying, scanning and faxing, including preparation of large court bundles filing and other general administration work.
  • Occasional reception cover

Skills required;

  • Strong typing skills
  • Some family secretarial experience, together with knowledge of family law terminology, is preferable
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office
  • A good standard of education and strong verbal and written communication skills
